AURORA, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis men's golf team opened its 2021-22 campaign with a sixth-place finish at the Aurora University Spartan Double Gun on Tuesday at the Aurora Country Club. Originally scheduled to be a 36-hole event, the tournament was cut to 18 holes after a strong storm swept through the area midway through the afternoon.

John Weis paced the Saints with a five-over-par 77 to finish in a six-way tie for 12th place. He was followed in the St. Francis lineup by Luke Petrovic, who carded a 79 in his collegiate debut to finish tied for 21st.

The rest of USF's scoring came from Brandon Brodzinski and Nolan Weis, who both shot an 81. Eric Gasienica recorded an 86 as the Saints' fifth golfer.

Host Aurora won the 15-team event with a four-over-par 292.  Illinois Valley Community College gained runner-up honors with its 303. USF shot 318.

The Spartans also boasted the top individual performer in Braeden Duncan, who was also the only golfer to finish below par. He recorded a two-under-par 70.
