OLIET, Ill. --- Litzy Mendez's third goal of the season broke a scoreless tie in the 96th minute, enabling the University of St. Francis women's soccer team to claim a 1-0 overtime decision against Governors State University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play at Joliet Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night.
With the victory, the Saints stayed within three points of league front-runner Holy Cross College, improving to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Governors State fell to 3-6, 2-4.
Turning Point
With both teams producing no more than one-half dozen shots on goal, Mendez's only attempt on goal off a pass from Allison Schaar was the only one to find the back of the net at 96:19.
How It Happened
· Yadira Estrada stopped six shots on goal in registering her fourth shutout of the season and the team's sixth of the campaign.
· Mendez's goal was her first since producing a pair in the season opener against Cleary University (Mich.) back on August 28.
· Schaar's assist was her team-leading eighth of the season.
· USF improved to 4-1 on the season in games decided by one goal with four of those matches being 1-0 decisions. The Saints have come out on the winning end in three of the four 1-0 contests.
· The overtime contest was the first of the season for the Saints.
· USF remained unbeaten at home, improving to 4-0.
