Saints Fall In Five Sets to Olivet Nazarene

JOLIET, Ill. --- Looking to keep pace at the top of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, the University of St. Francis volleyball team took to the floor Tuesday night against the Olivet Nazarene University Tigers. It was a hard-fought battle in front of a spirited Fighting Saint crowd that needed all five sets to determine a winner. Unfortunately for USF, it was the Tigers that had just enough firepower in set five to take down the Saints 3-2.
 

Turning Point

  • Trailing 10-9 in set five, Olivet Nazarene would go on a 6-0 run with Kaitlyn McMahan serving, to storm back to take the deciding set 15-10.
     

Key Stats

  • Desiree Anderson recorded her tenth double-double of the season, with 24 kills and 18 digs.

  • Kaylie Sippel recorded her sixth double-double of the season, with 36 assists and 13 digs.
     

How it Happened

  • In set one, it was a close-fought battle, with the largest lead of the set being just three points. 

  • The opening set was decided late, on two final points for ONU, including an ace from Becca Bell.

  • The Saints battled to take set two 25-22 with a late 7-3 run. Stephanie Woods finished off the set with a kill.

  • Olivet used a late run in the third set to take it 25-21. ONU hit .294 in the set, with 16 kills and six errors.

  • USF came storming back in set four, getting their defense going. Peyton Baird and Woods picked up blocks in the set. 

  • The Saints went on a 6-0 run with Lauren Stefanski serving that opened up a lead in set four. USF did not relinquish the lead, taking set four 25-19.

  • The two sides went back and forth in set five, with the match not being decided until ONU went on a 6-0 run to close out set five 15-10.
