SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- The University of St. Francis men's golf team came away with an eighth-place finish at the Bethel University (Ind.) Battle at Blackthorn, which was played at Blackthorn Golf Club on Friday and Saturday.
The Saints carded a 624 over the two days, improving by 16 strokes from the first day (320) to the second (304). It marked the second-best improvement among the 11 teams that competed.
Taylor University (Ind.) came away winning the title by shooting a two-under-par 570 (284-286) with the top three players in the tournament wearing the purple color of the Trojans.
Austin Davis led the way with a three-under-par 141 (70-71), one stroke better than teammate
Javan Johnson (71-71) and two strokes better than teammate
Adam Kasitz (70-73).
Shooting a 79 was the story of the day on Friday for the Saints, who had three different players register that total.
Brandon Brodzinski was one of the three and he followed that up with an even-par 72 on Saturday to finish in a tie for 16th place with his seven-over-par 151.
John Weis also cut his strokes down by four from one day to the next with his 79 and 75 totaling a 154 over the two days. John's brother,
Nolan Weis, was the other Saint to shoot a 79 on Friday. That was followed by his 80 on Saturday for a 159 overall reading.

EJ Charles also took seven strokes off his first-day score (84) in recording a 77 on Day Two for a 161 total.
Luke Petrovic accounted for USF's first-day scoring with his 83 before holing out at 81 on Saturday to finish at 164.
