Saints Suffer First Loss To Holy Cross

Notre Dame, Ind. --- Hitting the road on Wednesday afternoon, the University of St. Francis women's soccer team looked to keep their unbeaten and unscored upon streaks going against Holy Cross. Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half. Holy Cross came away with a 1-0 win over USF behind a 58th-minute goal by Rachel Gomez.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Saints controlled the ball throughout the first 17 minutes, taking seven shots.

  • Both goalkeepers were forced to make just one save in the opening 45 minutes.

  • Holy Cross broke the scoreless tie in the 58th minute when Gomez found the back of the net off of an Oliva Shaw pass.

  • USF came inches away from tying the match in the 84th minute, when an Alexis Marroquin shot hit the crossbar.

  • USF out-shot Holy Cross 15-11, but put just one shot on net.
