Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second Half Run Downs USF 5-1

DUBUQUE, Iowa --- Continuing a busy opening stretch to the 2021 season, the University of St. Francis men's soccer team made the trek to Iowa to take on Clarke University. The two sides played tight throughout the first half, but a second-half barrage from Clarke would prove detrimental for USF. Clarke would take the contest by a final score of 5-1.

Turning point

  • Leading 1-0 early in the second half, Clarke got two goals from Luke Persenico to complete the hat trick and one from Marco De Rosa in just 3:45 to give the Pride a 4-0 advantage.

How it happened

  • The two sides played early through the first part of the opening half. Clarke broke the scoreless tie when Persenico put a strike just inside the right post to make it 1-0 in the 24th minute.

  • USF got their best look on net late in the first half off of the foot of Sergio Fernandez-Arango, but it was saved by the Clarke keeper Jan Paule.

  • Clarke added four goals in the second half, including two from Persenico to complete the hat trick.

  • The Saints got a goal late in the second half off of the right foot of Izaak Avalos, the first of his career.

Up next

  • The Saints will be back in action a week from tomorrow on September 8 when Marian University comes to Joliet Memorial Stadium.
