Saints Collect Nine Goals in Win Over Cleary

HOWELL, Mich.-- On Saturday afternoon, the University of St. Francis women's soccer program defeated Cleary University by the score of 9-0. The Saints claimed their first win of the season in their first complete game. 
 

Turning Point

  • The Saints scored six of their nine goals of the match in the first 18:47 of the game. The first game in the sixth minute from Litzy Mendez. The next three were scored by Allison Schaar, Nataley Salgado, and Alexis Marroquin respectively. Then, in the 16th minute, Mendez added her second goal of the half, making it 5-0. The sixth and final goal of the first half was claimed by Lauren Pikulski in the 19th minute. 



How it Happened
  • The offense of USF was relentless, outshooting 27-3, with 17 of those shots being on goal. 

  • The Saints extended their lead in the 74th minute, when Hailey Bartlaga found her way onto the score sheet. That goal was promptly followed by two more in the 78th and 89th minutes, with Litzy Corona finding the back of the net in the 78th minute, and Valeria Valles-Garcia putting the exclamation point on the dominant win in the 89th minute. 

  • The game was a historic one for the program: It was the most goals for the women's team since October 2, 2012 when they beat Holy Cross on the road 9-0. 

  • The Saints were able to get 24 different players onto the pitch throughout the match, making this game a total team effort. 
     

What's Next

  • The Saints next match is scheduled for Wednesday, September 1st against Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana at Ingold Athletic Complex. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
