Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Saints Drop 5-1 Decision to Goshen

JOLIET-ILL.-- After dropping their first two games of the season, the University of St. Francis men's soccer program looked to get in the win column against Goshen College. However, the offensive barrage from the Maple Leafs of Goshen College was too much for the Saints to handle, as Goshen came away victorious by the score of 5-1.

Turning Point

  • Goshen responded immediately to the St. Francis equalizer. Goshen netted goals in the 30th and the 39th minute from Lars Razor and Lucas Bontreger, respectively.

How it happened
  • The Maple Leafs immediately applied pressure to the Saints, having two back-to-back chances at point blank range. Saints Goalkeeper Sebastian Mireles held the Leafs at bay, as one shot clanged off the woodwork, and the shot of the rebound sailed high.
  • Goshen broke the scoreless tie in the 18th minute, with a goal from Jorge Keller Martins
  • After being held scoreless for the first two matches of the season, the Saints finally tickled the twine with a chipped header from Sergio Fernandez-Arango, tying the game at one.
  • USF had multiple chances in the second half, including a header from Ander Santamarta that required a sprawling save from Goshen goalkeeper Matias da Fonseca, who finished the day with five saves.

Up next
  • The Saints next match will be at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, August 31 at Dalzell Field.
