CROWN POINT, Ind. --- The University of St. Francis softball team used a season-high 20 hits to stave off elimination in the 2021 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament by defeating Trinity Christian College 10-4 on Friday afternoon.
All nine batters in the St. Francis lineup recorded a hit in the contest with seven producing multiple hits. Eight players also drove in at least one run leading to the No.5 seeded Saints opening up a 7-0 lead after the first two-and-one-half innings.
Kayla Garcia (GR/Chicago, Ill.) authored the most hits going 4-for-5 with one run batted in, while Brittany Osborne (SO/Romeoville, Ill.) (3-for-5) delivered single RBIs in each of the first three innings to lead St. Francis in that category.
At the top of the lineup, Christina Lorenzatti (FR/Beecher, Ill.) matched Osborne's hit total, while scoring three times and driving in one run. The two-hit club was made up of Danielle Callahan (JR/New Lenox, Ill.), Madisen Tucker (JR/St. John, Ind.), Kaylie Sippel (FR/Beecher, Ill.), and Maddie Massaro(SO/Romeoville, Ill.) , all of whom also produced one RBI.
USF scored twice in each of the first two innings before adding three runs in both the third and sixth innings. The second of the three-run frames offset Trinity Christian's three-run fifth inning to make it a 7-4 game.
Bridget McDermott (SO/Palos Heights, Ill.) was the benefactor of the offensive outburst in the circle improving to 5-4 on the season. She went the first 4 1/3 innings.
The Saints (22-14) meet Cardinal Stritch University in another elimination contest on Friday at 3 pm. No.11 seed Trinity Christian was eliminated with the loss.
