CROWN POINT, Ind. --- The hitting shoes remained on for the University of St. Francis softball team adding another 15 to their 20-hit count from earlier in the day to register an 8-3 victory over No.8 seed Cardinal Stritch University and keep their run alive in the 2021 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon.
Â
After having seven Saints produce multi-hit contests in a 10-4 victory over Trinity Christian College earlier Friday, another five performed the feat against Cardinal Stritch (17-17) including three who did it in both games. Danielle Callahan (JR/New Lenox, Ill.) was a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored and another driven in after registering two hits in Game 1,  Madisen Tucker (JR/St. John, Ind.) matched her two-hit game from earlier in the day, and Kaylie Sippel (FR/Beecher, Ill.) went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in to make her 5-for-9 after the two games.
Â
Carlie Benes (JR/Valparaiso, Neb.) also got in the mix with two hits and an RBI, while Bridget McDermott (SO/Palos Heights, Ill.) helped her own cause with two hits and a run batted in.
Â
After going the first 4 1/3 innings to win the Trinity Christian contest, McDermott (6-4) went the distance in the Cardinal Stritch game to collect her second victory of the day in the circle. She retired the side in order in five of the seven innings, while yielding three of her five hits for the game in the only inning the Wolves scored, a three-run third.
Â
That offset USF's three-run first inning, which included RBI singles from Callahan and McDermott. The Saints would go back up for good in the bottom of the third inning on Benes' RBI single. They would add a pair of insurance runs in both the fourth and sixth innings with Kayla Garcia (GR/Chicago, Ill.) (double) and Tucker (fielder's choice) driving in the first two runs and Sippel the latter two on a triple.
Â
USF (23-14) looks to make it a perfect 3-for-3 day and advance to Saturday's round when it faces St. Ambrose University at 5Â pm on Friday night.
