DAVENPORT, Iowa --- The University of St. Francis women's volleyball team closed out its four-match road trip going 3-1 after notching its second straight set victory in a row on Thursday night, a 25-23, 25-18, 25-19 decision over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe St. Ambrose University.
Â
The Saints used a plethora of players, especially defensively, to claim their 11th win of the season against eight defeats overall. In league play, St. Francis jumped up to 8-5 on the campaign. St. Ambrose slipped to 12-7 overall and 7-5 in the conference.Â
Â
No fewer than four players recorded at least ten digs with two others highlighting the blocking attack. Desiree Anderson (FR/Joliet, Ill.) topped the dig chart with 18, followed by Brooklyn Withey (SR/Lapeer, Mich.), and Hannah Monfre (SO/Franklin, Wis.) with 14 each. Gabby Paelmo (JR/Schaumburg, Ill.) added another 10 digs.
Â
At the net, Lauren Stefanski (SR/Plainfield, Ill.) (7 blocks) and Stephanie Woods (JR/Westchester, Ill.) (5) helped the Saints total 12 team blocks on the night.
Â
Offensively, Withey recorded a team-high 11 kills with Taylor Valant (SR/St. Anne, Ill.) adding nine. Alexis Engst (JR/Bloomington, Ill.) totaled 27 assists.
Â
Twelve ties made up the first set, which USF led by no more than three points and St. Ambrose one. A Withey kill followed by one of 23 attacking errors on the night by the Fighting Bees enabled the Saints to close out the set. St. Ambrose would finish the contest attacking at just a 6.4 percent clip.
Â
Head coach Cara Currier's club jumped out to a 10-3 lead in Set 2, saw that advantage dip to 12-10 before going on to the seven-point victory.
Â
The Saints pulled away in Set 3, as well. Tied at 16-all, USF tallied nine of the final 12 points, including three on kills from Valant.
Â
The Saints return home on Tuesday (March 23) to face Indiana University Northwest in a CCAC matchup beginning at 7 pm at the Sullivan Center. Â Â Â Â Â
