JOLIET, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to three matches by winning in the minimum three sets for the third straight time defeating Indiana University Northwest 25-15, 25-19, 26-24 in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday night at the Sullivan Center.
Â
The Saints (12-8, 9-5 CCAC) built early leads in each of the three sets with Indiana Northwest waiting until the third set to use a late rally to make things interesting. In Set 1, USF broke a six-all tie with the next seven points to go up 13-6 and the Saints never led by less than three points the rest of the way.
Â
In Sets 2 and 3, St. Francis produced 10-5 advantages both times and extended the lead to 21-12 in the second set before claiming the six-point set win. The third set was a different story with the RedHawks rallying to force a tie at 19-all. Ties followed at 20, 22, 23 and 24 with Indiana Northwest having a shot at extending the match to a fourth set. The RedHawks, however, had two late errors before Brooklyn Withey (SR/Lapeer, Mich.) closed the match with a kill.
Â
Withey finished the contest with seven kills and a .250 attack percentage. She also produced 10 digs.
Â
Taylor Valant (SR/St. Anne, Ill.) was the only Saint to hit for double figures in kills with 10. She attacked at a .231 clip.
Â
Stephanie Woods (JR/Westchester, Ill.) turned in an impressive .455 attack reading with her six kills in 11 chances with only one error.
Â
Alexis Engst (JR/Bloomington, Ill.) ran the offense to the tune of 28 assists.
Â
Defensively, five different Saints produced eight or more digs topped by Desiree Anderson's (FR/Joliet, Ill.) 12.  Hannah Monfre (SO/Franklin, Wis.) joined Withey to gain runner-up honors with 10 digs.
Â
Indiana Northwest hurt itself with 25 attacking errors leading to a 7.4 percent attack report. USF finished at 20.5 percent to sweep the two-match series against the RedHawks this year.
Â
The Saints will try to match their season high of four consecutive wins on Thursday (March 25) when they go up against Judson University at the Sullivan Center. The Eagles won in the minimum three sets the last time the two teams met back on Feb. 23. Â
