ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's basketball team will head into the post-season riding a four-game winning streak after cruising to a 77-37 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory over Roosevelt University to close out the regular season on Friday night.
Â
With the exception of one tie midway through the first quarter, the Saints led from start to finish. Up 18-10 after the first-quarter stop, head coach Steve Brooks' team outscored the host Lakers 44-13 over the middle two quarters to land their second-highest margin of victory this season.
Â
The 37 points allowed were also the lowest tallied by a St. Francis opponent this season as was Roosevelt's .214 shooting clip from the field. The Lakers (0-7, 0-7 CCAC) managed just 12 baskets in 56 attempts, while the Saints hit nearly that many from beyond the arc alone with their 11 in 29 attempts. Overall, USF was 29-of-63 from the field (.460).
Â
The Saints also carried a 49-33 advantage in the rebounding column.
Â
Fifteen different Saints saw action in the contest with twelve contributing to the scoring column. Lacey Gardner (SR/Spring Grove, Ill.) and Leah Sims (SR/Chicago, Ill.) tied for team-high scoring honors with 12 points each. Gardner also hauled in both a career- and team-high seven rebounds.Â
Â
Josie Graffeo (SO/Manteno, Ill.) added another 11 points.
Â
Roosevelt's Mallory Hawkins led all scorers with 14 markers.
Â
With the victory, USF (21-4, 9-2) wrapped up an opening-round bye in next week's CCAC Tournament. Its two potential second-round opponents will not be known until Sunday night after all league contests are completed. The tournament, which will feature 13 teams this year, begins on Tuesday (Feb. 23) and runs through March 1.
