GARY, Ind. --- Indiana University Northwest snapped the University of St. Francis men's basketball team's season high five game winning streak behind four players scoring in double figures in the Redhawks' 77-59 victory at the Savannah Center on Wednesday night.
Brian Hernandez led the attack with 19 points and four three-pointers in six attempts. As a team, the hosts shot .563 from long range with nine treys in 16 attempts. Hernandez's other numbers included a team-high seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal.
Other impact players for Indiana Northwest included
Jason Peace with his perfect 6-for-6 shooting mark from the field and 14 points off the bench, and 11 points each from
Marshaud Watkins (game-high 7 assists), and
Tromon Weston (7 rebounds).
The Saints, which shot just .368 from the field (21-of-57) and only .273 from three-point range (6-of-22), were led by
Joey Buggemi's 15 points and another 12 markers from
EJ Charles.
USF (6-2, 3-2 CCAC) opened the contest by scoring the game's first seven points before the Redhawks forced the first tie just under four minutes later. The hosts (6-3, 3-2) would eventually gain a 41-33 advantage at the stop.
In the second half, Indiana Northwest, which shot .492 on the night (31-of-63), scored the first four points and never let its lead dip below ten points the rest of the way. A 15-4 run midway through the half put the game out of reach.
