DEERFIELD, Ill. --- Looking to close out its fourth win in a row after claiming the first two sets and leading in the third by an 8-2 count, the University of St. Francis women's volleyball team was unable to seal the deal as Trinity International University rallied for an 18-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-5 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory on Tuesday night.
A 9-2 run after initially trailing 7-3 in the first set allowed the Saints (15-16, 11-6 CCAC) to take the early advantage before the hosts looked to even up the match by opening Set 2 scoring the first six points. USF, however, was able to battle back not once, but twice, tying the set at 13 and again at 19 after slipping behind 18-14. The Saints then opened a 2-0 advantage by closing out the set with six of the final nine points.
In Set 3, the early 8-2 advantage was eliminated by TIU's string of six unanswered points. The Saints then led 19-18 before the Trojans (17-13, 12-5) ran off seven of the final nine points.Â
Set 4 featured a pair of swings with St. Francis opening up an initial 11-6 lead only to find itself trailing later 21-17. The Saints were able to regroup to tie the contest at 21 all before TIU evened the match with four of the last five points. The Trojans were able to use that momentum to open the fifth set scoring the first seven points in coasting to the final 15-5 margin of victory.
