CHICAGO --- Looking to clinch a postseason berth with a victory, the University of St. Francis men's soccer team came out on the short end of a 3-1 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference decision to Judson University on Wednesday afternoon.
The Saints (6-10-1, 6-5-1 CCAC) now need either a victory on Saturday versus Cardinal Stritch University or a loss or tie by Holy Cross College against Lincoln College on the same day to advance to next week's CCAC Tournament.
Judson (11-2-3, 8-2-2) wasted little time in getting the lead on Wednesday, scoring just 3:44 into the contest. The score would stay that way the rest of the half despite the Eagles putting six more shots on goal to USF's two.
The hosts eventually extended their lead to 2-0 in the 62nd minute before the Saints countered with
Anthony Derka's goal off a feed from
Leonardo Haro at 73:33.
USF could never get any closer after that, attempting just more one shot the rest of the afternoon.
For the match, Judson produced 15 shots with 11 being on goal. St. Francis countered with five shots, three of which were on goal.
Judson added one more tally in the closing four minutes to account for the two-goal margin of victory.
