CHICAGO --- Two goals by
Anna Jakubiec and another record-setting shutout from
Yadira Estrada locked in a postseason berth for the University of St. Francis women's soccer program on Saturday night after the Saints claimed a 3-0 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Saint Xavier University.
Estrada, who set the single-season record for shutouts earlier this year, added to that total with her seventh blanking of the campaign by stopping a pair of shots. It was also the ninth shutout of her career, which ties her atop that chart along with
Jeanna Potter, who played for the Saints between 2000-03.
For the season, USF has now posted nine shutouts among its 14 contests.
Estrada got plenty of support offensively, including Jakubiec with the first two goals of her collegiate career. The initial one came off an assist from
Litzy Corona at 19:10 to put the Saints up 2-0. The freshman defender added her second goal just under two minutes into the second half.
The only goal USF wound up needing on this day came from
Litzy Mendez 4:21 into the contest. That snapped a string of three straight games without scoring for St. Francis and was part of a 16-shot attack from the Saints (9-4-1, 6-4-1 CCAC) in the opening 45 minutes. They would finish with 21 totals shots opposite 11 for Saint Xavier (3-12-1, 3-7-1) with 14 coming on goal to the Cougars' three.
The nine wins on the season are the most for the program since the 2015 campaign and the conference tournament berth will be its first in four years (2017).
