JOLIET, Ill. - A four-match winning streak now exists for the University of St. Francis men's soccer team as Reuel Erastus-Obilo (SR/Potters Bar, England) tallied a pair of penalty-kick goals, including the game winner early in the second half, as the Saints posted a 3-2 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) triumph over visiting Robert Morris this Saturday (Oct. 5) evening on the ATI Field turf at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
With the victory, USF has now won six of its last seven matches and is 7-2-2 overall with a 4-1-2 mark in conference match play. Robert Morris is 5-4-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the CCAC as a resultof the loss.
The host Saints were the first to strike as forward Erastus-Obilo converted on a penalty kick just 6:12 into the match to put USF up 1-0. However, the Saints' lead would be a short one as a little less than two minutes later Ethan Simmons headed the ball into the USF net unassisted to knot the match up at one-apiece.
USF would counter with eight minutes remaining in the opening half as midfielder-forwarder Isaac Brown (FR/Rockton, Ill.) succeeded with a header on the RMU goal with exactly 37 minutes displayed on the scoreboard clock. Brown's fifth goal of the year was set by a pass from forward Kevin Sanchez (SR/Malden, Ill.).
The eventual game-winning tally would come shortly after the start of the second half as Erastus-Obilo, who would post five shots for the match, received his second penalty kick opportunity of the match and proceeded to capitalize on the one-on-one scoring chance against RMU goalkeeper Fabio Beyer. Erastus-Obilo drilled the ball past Beyer into the Eagles' goal for his team-leading ninth goal of the year and team-high 20th point this season.
As time moved on Erastus-Obilo's goal proved to be the decisive one as RMU's Matthias Moser made good on a penalty kick with seven minutes left in the contest.
USF goalkeeper Carlos Ferrer Coto (JR/La Fresneda, Spain) stopped seven Eagles' shots on net to earn the victory as his season mark is now 7-2-2. Fabio Beyer took the loss for Robert Morris in a nine-saves effort and stands at 5-4-0 on the year.
For the match, USF claimed a 22-15 shots advantage and also a 5-1 margin in corner kicks. RMU was called for 18 fouls and USF was assessed 14 as a combined six yellow cards were distributed between the two teams.
Midfielder-forward Anthony Marmolejo (FR/Plainfield, Ill.)'s eight shots on overall and five shots on goal both represented match highs.
The Saints will now go for their fifth win in a row this this Wednesday (Oct. 9) taking on the Roosevelt Lakers in CCAC action. A 2:30 p.m. (CT) start is scheduled for the CCAC encounter in Chicago, Ill.
