Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Socce Qualifies for CCAC Tourney With Win

DAVENPORT, IOWA --- Reuel Erastus-Obilo (SR/Potters Bar, England) scored a pair of goals and Carson Heglund (FR/Channahon, Ill.) stopped three shots on goal in his collegiate debut enabling the University of St. Francis men's soccer team to secure a postseason berth with its 2-1 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory over St. Ambrose University on Tuesday (Oct. 29) night.

Heglund came on in the 40th minute in place of injured starter Carlos Ferrer Coto (JR/La Fresneda, Spain) and just under ten minutes later found himself facing a penalty kick with the score knotted at 1-1. He stopped that shot and two others to record his first-ever collegiate victory in goal after Erastus-Obilo broke the tie with his second goal of the game on a header off a free kick from Malek Rashid (JR/West Bank, Palestine) at 55:38.

Erastus-Obilo and Rashid also worked together on the Saints' first goal, which gave the guests an early 1-0 lead 8:19 into the contest. For Erastus-Obilo, the tallies were his team-leading 11th and 12th goals of the season, while Rashid collected his first points of the campaign.

St. Ambrose (4-11-2, 1-8-2 CCAC) forced the 1-1 tie with its only shot on goal in the opening half when Tom Greenwood connected off an assist from Ricky Rueda.

The host Fighting Bees did manage to get off 12 shots for the match, but only the four were on goal. On the opposite end, the Saints (9-5-4, 6-4-2) produced 11 shots with eight being on goal.

With a bye on the conference schedule Saturday, head coach Dan Cross' club has the next 11 days off before competing in the eight-team CCAC Tournament, which starts Nov. 9. The Saints can be no higher than the No.5 seed in the field and no lower than No.7. Pairings will not be determined until Nov. 6.
