Two Saints Score Three Goals Apiece as USF Trounces CCSJ

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. - A pair of three-goal outputs by both midfielder-forward Anthony Marmolejo (FR/Plainfield, Ill.) and forward Kevin Sanchez (SR/Malden, Ill.) propelled the University of St. Francis men's soccer team to a resounding 7-0 shutout of Calumet St. Joseph this Saturday (Oct. 26) in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest at East Chicago (Ind.) Central High School.

USF, which erupted for four first-half goals in the win, is now 8-5-4 overall and 5-4-2 in conference match play. The loss by CCSJ drops its season record to 2-11-1 overall and 0-8-1 in the CCAC.

Sanchez started the scoring at 3:21 in the first half on a pass from midfielder Stefan Jakovljevic (JR/Bregenz, Austria). The two would hook up again at little over 22 minutes later as Sanchez netted his second tally of the match to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.

USF's next score was by Marmolejo at the opening half's 38:46 mark as forward Reuel Erastus-Obilo (SR/Potters Bar, England) garnered the assist, which represented his first of two on the day. The Saints would strike again just under four minutes elapsed as Marmolejo connected with an unassisted goal as USF led 4-0 at the half.

The Saints quickly increased their advantage to 5-0 three and one half minutes into the second half as Sanchez recorded a hat trick with his third goal of the contest which was unassisted. Marmolejo duplicated Sanchez's feat with his third goal of the game at 66:48 as the Saints went up 6-0. The three goals scored by Marmolejo, who now has eight on the season, marks the second time this season in which the USF midfielder-forward has netted a "hat trick" as he scored three times in a 5-0 non-conference triumph at Indiana-Northwest earlier this season (Sept. 11). Reuel Erastus-Obilo, who assisted on the goal, would score one of his own unassisted at the 89:32 mark to account for the match's final outcome.

Goalkeeper Carlos Ferrer Coto (JR/La Fresneda, Spain) picked up the shutout victory to register a current 7-5-4 record on the 2019 campaign by stopping the Crimson Wave's lone shot on goal in 90 minutes of action between the posts. While Coto had a quiet afternoon in net, CCSJ goalkeeper Jose Molina was busy stopping seven USF shots on goal while allowing five in 59:31 minutes of playing time. Molina's teammate, Noah Dattillo came in to spell Molina and allowed two goals while making one save in 30:29 of action.

The matchup was offensively heavy for the Saints, who had 23 shots in the match with 13 of those taking place in the opening half while the Crimson Wave's lone shot also came in the first 45 minutes of play. Individually for USF, Marmolejo paced the Saints with eight total shots, which included seven on goal. Sanchez totaled seven shots with five being on the CCSJ goal, and Erastus-Obilo, who had a five-point (2-1=5) performance to increase his team-leading points total to 24 (10-4=24) this fall, managed to put all three of his shot attempts on goal.

For the contest, USF held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks and committed 15 fouls while the Crimson Wave was called for 13 infractions.
