Cara Currier was named the head coach of the University of St. Francis volleyball program before the 2002 season. The 2025-26 season was the final season in Currier’s 24-year run as head coach and assistant athletic director at USF.
The three-time CCAC Coach of the year (2007, 2012, 2016) has amassed a final cumulative head coaching record of 545-402 during her 24-year head coaching career, which upon retirement ranked in the top 20 among active NAIA coaches in career victories. Currier has also led the Saints to the NAIA national tournament three times (2002,2012,2016).
During her tenure, Currier’s teams have produced 16 winning records including the highly successful 2016 season, in which Currier guided the team to a 32-13 record (16-3 CCAC), a share of the CCAC regular-season title, a CCAC Tournament championship and an NAIA national finals berth. She has eclipsed the 30-win mark on three occasions throughout her tenure.
Currier won her 500th career win against Concordia University (Mich.) on Oct. 8, 2022. She earned her 400th career win in the season-opening match of the 2017 season, a four-set victory over Concordia (Mich.) (8/25/17). She achieved her 300th career win on Sept. 20, 2013, in a three-set win over Indiana University East.
Currier was successful in her initial season at USF in 2002, where her team posted a 35-9 mark, won the CCAC and NAIA Region VII tournaments, and advanced to the NAIA national tournament where the team tied for 11th place.
Before being named head coach at USF, Currier served as an assistant volleyball coach for the 2000-01 season. Additionally, she spent five years as a math teacher and coach at Plainfield Central High School.
In her collegiate years, Currier posted a 3.31-grade point average and earned a total of 11 letters in volleyball, swimming and softball as an undergraduate at Augustana. She earned a slew of honors in her career, including softball Academic All-American.
Currier received her bachelor of arts degrees in both mathematics and secondary education from Augustana (Ill.) College in 1990 and a master of science degree in sports management from Western Illinois University in 1998.
Currier is the mother of twin daughters, Ashley and Haley who were born in 2003.
