Katie Monterosso

Katie Monterosso joined the Fighting Saints in July of 2024 as an assistant coach for the women’s soccer team.  The 2025-26 season will mark Monterosso’s second year as assistant coach.

At St. Francis, Monterosso assists the program in coordination of practice plans, individual player development, assisting in training sessions, and implementation of game strategies.  She has earned multiple endorsements and licenses throughout the years including a National D Coaching License from the United States Soccer Federation, as well as a United Soccer Coaches High School Diploma.

Alongside assisting the Fighting Saints staff, Monterosso is entering her sixth year as the head girls soccer coach at Plainfield North High School.  After the COVID pandemic canceled her first season in 2020, Monterosso has led the Tigers to a 71-13-9 overall record, as well as to two conference and regional championships (2023, 2024), and one sectional championship (2023).  Under her guidance, she received the 2023 IHSSCA Section #10 Coach of the Year award after guiding her team to a record-setting 23 wins, with that team producing a school-record 20 shutouts (0.37 goals against average) while making PNHS’s first-ever appearance in the Super Sectionals.  The Tigers scored 141 goals that season, which helped solidify their ranking as a 2023 IHSA Top 20 team.  Monterosso’s teams have received numerous awards, including the IHSSCA Sportsmanship Award (2021), the United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award (2022), as well as the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award (2023 – 3.8 GPA, 2024 – 4.3 GPA).

Monterosso began her coaching career in 2009 as the assistant coach for the varsity girls and boys soccer teams at Plainfield East High School (2008-2013).  She served in this position while also coaching the Legends/Chicago Fire Juniors West club team (2009-2015).  From 2016-2018, Monterosso entered the collegiate ranks as an assistant coach at Saint Xavier University, while also simultaneously serving as the freshman head coach at Lincoln-Way East High School.

The St. Louis, Mo. native attended Saint Louis University (2005-2009) where she was a member of the 2005 & 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference championship teams, which were later inducted into the Saint Louis University Athletics Hall of Fame.  Before college, she competed at Providence Catholic High as well as for the Windy City Pride and Chicago Magic soccer clubs.  Monterosso obtained her Masters in Education from University of St. Francis (Ill.) in 2014, and is currently working on procuring her Masters in Educational Leadership with an expected graduation in 2026.
