Scott Hansen joined the Fighting Saints in July of 2020 as an assistant coach for the football team to the tight ends. The 2024-25 season will mark Hansen’s fifth year as assistant coach.
At St. Francis, Hansen assists the program in coordination of practice plans, individual player development, assisting in training sessions, and implementation of game strategies.
Prior to joining the Fighting Saints staff, Hansen spent seven seasons (2014-2020) as the Co-Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach, and Punt Coordinator at Hinsdale South High School in Darien, Ill., where his guidance helped the Hornets break four offensive receiving records. During the 2013 season, Hansen served HSHS as the Defensive Backs Coach.
Hansen began his coaching career in 2005 as the Freshman Offensive Coordinator at Downers Grove North High School in Aurora, Ill. before taking on roles as Sophomore Co-Defensive Coordinator in 2006 and the JV Offensive Coordinator in 2008. After leaving DGNHS in 2009, Hansen served for one season (2010) at Aurora Central Catholic High School as the head freshman coach. In 2011, he accepted the position of wide receivers coach at Oswego East High School, and served the same role at Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in 2012.
A native of Oswego, Ill., Hansen graduated from University of St. Francis (Ill.) in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with middle school endorsements in mathematics, social studies, and language arts. He later earned his secondary mathematics endorsements at University of Illinois-Springfield in 2015. During his playing career at St. Francis (1998-02), Hansen was a three-year starting quarterback and also served time as wide receiver and on special teams. He is ranked in the Top 10 at USF in career passing yards and career completions. After graduation, Hansen signed a contract to compete for the Leyden Lions minor league football team. As the quarterback, he earned team MVP honors in both 2007 & 2010, and led the Lions to a Mid-States Football League second place finish in 2009.
