FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- University of Saint Francis (Ind.) started the match off with offensive dominance on Saturday when the University of St. Francis men's soccer team became its fourth shutout victim of the year in a 6-0 defeat to the Cougars. The Fighting Saints (2-2-2) were out-shot 26-3 on the day, with 15 host attempts being on-goal.
First Half
The only goal the Cougars (5-3-1) needed was the one that came just 9:57 into the contest by Sidney Tippner, whose shot sailed above the outstretched arms of USF keeper
Logan LaFrance. After the Saints saw their only attempt in the first half come up short via a Cougar save four minutes later, Saint Francis would add two additional points to their total quickly thereafter in the 28th and 31st minutes to build its lead to 3-0 - an advantage they would carry into the halftime break.
Second Half
The Cougars balanced their offensive attack with solid defense in the second half as St. Francis was only able to take two shots in the closing 45 minutes at 81:42 and 85:10. Those came off the foot of junior forward
Ted Barker, resulting in a miss high of the net and a save for the Cougar keeper. Saint Francis' offense attempted 10 shots in the second half and connected three times to double its goal count. Despite letting six goals get by, LaFrance accrued nine saves in the match.
Next Match
The Saints will have six days of rest before opening up Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Sept. 26 in a home match against Indiana University Northwest. The contest against the RedHawks is slated to begin at 3:30 pm at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
