LOCKPORT, Ill. -- Behind two wins each from
Sweta Rana,
Eva Kubilius,
Hannah Linko and
Rebecca Linko, the University of St. Francis women's tennis team picked up a win with a 7-0 victory over College of DuPage while the men's tennis team competed individually in a dual scrimmage matchup on Saturday afternoon at Challenge Fitness.
The duo of Rana and Kubilius got together for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Hannah Linko and
Rebecca Linko paired up for a 6-0 win of their own at No. 2. Those victories were combined with a 6-2 win for
Emma Deitz and
Max Phillips-Mantia at the No. 3 spot for USF's first point of the game.
Rana claimed the first singles match played with her 7-6 (8-6), 7-5 win at No. 1. Kubilius followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2.
Hannah Linko and
Rebecca Linko also defeated their respective opponents at No. 3 and No. 4 with 6-1, 6-0 and 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 scores, respectively, before
Sophia Taylor closed out the match by outlasting her opponent at No. 5. Taylor won 6-2, 6-3.
The Chaparrals had to take forfeit losses at Nos. 5 and 7 after
Gwen Baker (No. 5) and
Elizabeth Dvorak (No. 7) won their first sets with matching score of 6-2.
For the men, the duo of
Utkarsh Sharma and
John Kenny picked up a win at No. 2 doubles, before a hard-fought match ended in a 6-4 defeat for
Rocco Cortese and
Nate Monahan at No. 1. The four men would then later compete individually in singles competition with each Saint claiming a one-set victory. Kenny posted a score of 6-3 at No. 1, while Monahan registered a 6-0 tally at No. 2. Sharma recorded a 6-1 final score at No. 3, and Cortese finished No. 4 at 6-0.
Next Up
Both tennis teams will return to action on September 26 when they travel to Quincy, Ill. to compete against the Hawks of Quincy University. The event is slated to begin at 12 pm.
