JOLIET, Ill. -- NCAA Division II Purdue University Northwest handed the University of St. Francis baseball team its fourth shutout of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Fighting Saints 6-0 in a non-conference matchup at Slammers Stadium.
Purdue Northwest (13-16) connected for two doubles in the sixth inning as part of its six-run, six-hit frame with five of the runs occurring after two outs. That would be all the scoring for either team in the contest as USF managed just five hits in the nine-inning affair with only five baserunners getting into scoring position. Only two of those runners reached third base and both times came with two outs.
Mitchell Thomas provided two of the hits in four at-bats for St. Francis (14-26), including the only one that went for extra bases (double).Â
Noah Munson,
Will Calcaterra and
Haruki Maruyama recorded the other singles.
For the game, USF pitchers walked three while also yielding 11 hits.
Cristopher Villwock picked up the loss on the mound for USF, dropping his season record to 1-1.Â
