MELBOURNE, Fla. --
Kaitlyn Schofield and
Amia Aguilar combined to record the fourth shutout of the 2026 season for the University of St. Francis softball team in an 11-0 victory over University of Northwestern Ohio, but not before dropping a 5-3 decision to No. 3-ranked Madonna University (Mich.) in the first of two games on Friday afternoon on the team's fifth day of play at the Space Coast Spring Break games in Melbourne, Fla.
Three Fighting Saint players were key parts of the 11-hit, second-game attack with three individuals producing multi-RBI games. Leading the way was
Sarah Viar with four hits, while
Missy Saldana and
Jaelynn Taylor each tallied two hits.Â
Isabella Landeros (2 RBI), along with Taylor (3 RBI) and Viar (4 RBI), also knocked in multiple runs.
Saldana, Viar and Boyle registered hits in each end of the doubleheader with Taylor also connecting for a towering three-run homerun in the nightcap.
Game 1:Â Madonna 5, USF 3
Madonna (20-1) started the game with four hits and four free passes in the first two innings to open up a 2-0 lead and extended that to 4-2 after USF tied the score after plating two runs in its half of the second frame. The Crusaders would add one more run to its total in the seventh inning but not before St. Francis put its third marker on the board in the fifth after benefiting from two MU errors.
Along with
Emily Boyle's (2-for-3) and Viar's (2-for-3) matching two-hit performances, also providing hits in the game for St. Francis were Schofield (1-for-1, 1 RBI) and Saldana (1-for-3, RBI).
Schofield (5-4) was credited with the loss in the circle, with the junior striking out one batter, while issuing six free passes in 3.2 innings pitched in the circle for the Saints.
Game 2:Â USF 11, Northwestern Ohio 0
The Saints' offense adjusted quickly after their Game 1 loss, scoring eleven times with no less than two runs in four of their five at-bats. Taylor got things started with her homerun in the first inning before Viar capped off her perfect 4-for-4 showing at the plate in the game with a two-RBI single in the final frame in USF's five-inning mercy rule 11-0 win.
Viar accounted for two other RBIs in the game, while Landeros collected her two RBIs off of a single in the second and a fielder's choice in the fourth.
Schofield (6-4) needed only one of those runs to aid in picking up her sixth win of the season in the circle. She allowed just two hits in her four innings of work, while striking out three batters against one walk.
