Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Saints Storm Past Crimson Wave With 3-0 Sweep

WHITING, Ind. -- Backed by a strong attack, the University of St. Francis women's volleyball team polished off its sixth Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season, ousting Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) 3-0 on Tuesday night.  The 25-21, 25-13, 25-21 three set sweep ups USF's record to 8-13 on the year and 6-7 in league play.

Alyssa Teske took care of business at the net, registering 10 kills, while Aubrey Phillips chipped in with eight and committed just one attacking error leading to a team best .583 attack mark.

Phillips also led the charge defensively at the net with the junior authoring one solo block and two block assists.  Kennedy Walker joined four other teammates in topping the team in digs with five and registered 12 assists in in the contest.  Teske accounted for nine more of the team's 35 total assists.

St. Francis started the first set on a strong note with a pair of kills from Teske and three from Emma Rodrigue in aiding the Saints to winning the race to 15, before Calumet St. Joseph (1-17, 1-12 CCAC) began to find its footing and regrouped with five kills as part of an 8-2 run to tie the game at 17-17.  USF responded by capturing five of the next seven rallies via kills before finishing the set with one more kill and back-to-back blocks to seal the 25-21 victory.

After the Saints jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead in the second stanza, the Crimson Wave were able to retaliate with a 4-1 scoring spurt to come within two points at 7-5.  That would be as close as the hosts would get before the USF front line exploded for 12 kills in accounting for all but six of its remaining 18 points to allow USF to comfortably sail to the 25-13 set 2 win.

The final frame showcased seven tied scores within the first 24 rallies, but St. Francis answered with a 5-0 burst as part of an 8-3 run to mark the score at 20-15.  The Crimson Wave were later able to cut their deficit to three points at 22-19 before their momentum was quickly halted with attacking errors resulting in St. Francis coming away with the 25-21 victory and 3-0 match sweep.
