Saints Break Out With Three Goals In Win Over Aurora

AURORA, Ill. -- The University of St. Francis women's soccer team scored three goals, including two by Isabel Diez, and Giselle Mata recorded her fourth straight shutout in the net as the Fighting Saints rolled to a 3-0 victory over Aurora University on Wednesday night at the Spartan Athletic Complex in Aurora, Ill.

First Half
Diez provided the first two USF goals of the match for the Saints, doing so in the contest's first 13 minutes at the 10:56 and 13:40 marks, respectively.  Kelly Flores delivered the assist on Diez's first tally, while the junior forward authored an unassisted score in her latter effort.  Just eight minutes after USF took the 2-0 lead, Charlene Mendoza pushed the Saints' scoring margin up to three in collecting her first goal of the 2025 campaign in the 21st minute.  The Saints outshot Aurora in the first 45 minutes of action, 10-1, with Mata recording one save to keep the game scoreless.

Second Half
The second half began by showcasing a similar story as the first 45 minutes with the Saints keeping offensive command over the Spartans throughout the duration of the frame.  USF registered eight shots compared to Aurora's four, forcing AU's keeper to record four saves.  The Saints' defense confidently commanded the pitch throughout the closing 45 minutes, allowing just one contested Spartan shot.

St. Francis was led offensively by Diez, who recorded a team-high seven shot attempts.  Flores (three) and Jimena Diaz (two) each had multiple targets on goal, while Mendoza and Andrea Aguirre both registered one.  Making her fourth start in goal, Mata made the most of it with her fourth straight shutout.  She stopped her only two shots on goal to record two saves in the contest.

USF (3-0-1) outshot Aurora (0-4-0) 18-5 on the night, including 10-2 on goal.
