JOLIET, Ill. --- Doane University (Neb.) continued its offensive prowess on Sunday afternoon, wrapping up a three-game sweep of the University of St. Francis baseball team with its 11-3 victory at Slammers Stadium. The Tigers, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll, finished the weekend series totaling 36 runs and 46 hits.
Doane (13-2) went right back to work on Sunday, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning and two more in the third to open up a 4-0 advantage. A pair of three-run frames in the sixth and seventh innings put the game out of reach.
Jake Klepacz and
Nate Maliska each collected two hits and drove in one run for the Saints (4-11). Klepacz's RBI came on a lead-off home run to right field in the fourth inning to account for USF's first run of the game. Maliska made it a 5-2 game in the fifth inning with his two-out RBI single.
USF's other run came on an
Alex Mielcarz sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.
Kai Formella was the lone Saint pitcher among five that went to the mound that did not yield a run. He pitched two scoreless innings – the eighth and ninth – and only allowed one hit, while striking out three batters.
