Shepard Nets Career High, Sets School Record In 127-46 Win Over Calumet St. Joseph

JOLIET, Ill. -- A career night for junior guard Abby Shepard lifted the University of St. Francis women's basketball team to a 127-46 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on Wednesday evening at the Pat Sullivan Center.  Not only did Shepard score a career-high 33 points, but she also put together a record-setting worksheet from beyond the arc.

Shepard's 11 total three-pointers broke the program record previously held by Jordan Pyle.  Pyle netted 10 treys versus Roosevelt University in 2022.

Wednesday's win - which fell just one point short of tying a school record - marks victory number 21 on the season for USF, carrying the Fighting Saints to a 21-6 overall mark and a 14-5 league record.  Prior to the contest, St. Francis honored its four seniors, Jorja Bolton, Keijah Gray, Lauren Knight and Amou Ring,.

Shepard totaled 15 points in the first half and another 18 in the second half to go along with eight rebounds and three steals.  Knight missed the double-double club by one assist, finishing with career bests in both points (22) and assists (9), while sinking 7-of-13 three-pointers.  Coryn Fromm and Tykara Harrison, who each contributed 13 points, combined for another 10 assists.

Gray, meanwhile, netted a season-high 12 points, with Ring rounding out the double-digit scorers with 10 markers.  Other contributors of note included Mariah Pates and Gabi Bednar with nine and eight points, respectively.

Ten of USF's players also recorded at least one assist on a night where the Saints passed the ball around to the tune of 37 total dishoffs.  Laurelei Thormeyer provided four assists with Gabi Bednar delivering three.

Of its 47 baskets, a school-record 26 came from long range in 54 attempts for USF, producing a 48.1 percent shooting mark from beyond the arc.  Overall, the Saints hit on 52.2 percent of their field goal attempts (47-of-90).

Calumet St. Joseph's Amelia Scorsone led the Crimson Wave (2-25, 0-19) in team-high scoring honors.  She totaled 14 points, while going 7-for-10 from the field.

The Saints doubled their point total from the first quarter (24) to the second frame (48) to head into the intermission with a sizeable 72-24 advantage.  The score rose to a 50-point differential (81-31) after a Knight three-pointer four minutes into the third quarter before ballooning to as high as 81 points after a Taylor Schergen layup in the game's final minute.
