EUREKA, Ill. -- Behind
Damarcies Moore's team-high 18 points and two other Fighting Saints players scoring in double figures, the University of St. Francis men's basketball team earned its sixth straight victory of the 2025-26 season Wednesday night by defeating Eureka College 71-58 in a non-conference matchup. The Saints limited the Red Devils to zero points over a seven-minute span in the first half and then held on for the 13-point win to extend its unbeaten streak and overall record to 6-0. With the loss, Eureka falls to 2-7.
Joffrey Nunnally provided another 16 points for the Saints with 12 coming from beyond the arc in eight attempts.
Merrick Small and
Connor Casper also were solid from the field with the former going 4-for-6 as part of an 11-point night for him. Casper, meanwhile, sank all four of his attempts from the field en route to a nine-point night. Moore (11), Small (11) and Casper (6) also combined to supply 28 of the Saints' 42 rebounds.
After opening the game by holding a four-point lead over the first four minutes, the Fighting Saints found themselves facing a deficit with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The scoreboard would eventually turn back to St. Francis' favor after a 16-0 scoring burst over a seven-minute stretch turned a one-point shortfall (15-14) at the 10-minute mark into a 15-point lead (30-15) with three minutes remaining in the half. The Saints used their inside presence to score the first four points of the run before a clutch three-pointer from Nunnally on the Saints' next possession finally broke the ice for USF. It would be one of five straight long-range daggers the Saints would sink as part of a 10-minute, 25-9 scoring surge to close out the half and secure a 36-24 advantage at intermission.
After connecting for just 6-of-21 attempts (28.6 percent) in the first 10 minutes of play, USF used a 60.0 percent shooting effort (21-of-35) for the remainder of the game to support a productive defensive showing in outscoring the Red Devils 57-43 after the slow start to lock in the 71-58 win.
Pulling down a season-high 42 rebounds on the night and outscoring the Red Devils 13-2 in second chance opportunities, the Saints also recorded five blocks to help offset a 15-0 swing in points off turnovers that was held by Eureka.
Jaxson Provost led the Red Devils with his 26 points, while Ben Carter chipped in another 10.
