Saints Claim 3-1 Win Over Governors State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. -- Building upon the momentum created from its five-set victory over Saint Xavier University two days ago, the University of St. Francis women's volleyball team claimed another Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory on Thursday night with its 3-1 win over Governors State University.  With the 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 25-17 four-set win, the Fighting Saints improve their overall record to 16-12 on the season and 12-3 in league play.

The two squads put up a fight throughout the duration of the four-set match, showcasing 20 tied scores between the teams during the first two sets.  The Saints utilized a 7-0 run to surge ahead from an 18-18 deadlock and capture a 25-18 set one win, before benefiting from a 5-1 run to close out set two with a 25-20 victory.  Malaya Morris began the first run with a powerful kill before four service aces from Ann Simon and three additional kills from Riley Hungate pushed the Saints to the 1-0 advantage, while Delani Kirstein provided the momentum in the latter scoring surge with a strong kill followed by a solo block to help aid the Saints in taking a 2-0 match lead into the third game.

The Jaguars wasted no time in flexing some muscle over the Saints in Set 3, racing out to a 15-10 lead.  St. Francis eventually cut their deficit to just one point at 17-16, before settling for the six-point defeat at 25-19.  GSU totaled 18 kills in the stanza, compared to USF's 10, and benefited from a .208 attack percentage in the win.

St. Francis utilized 15 kills in the final set, highlighted by five kills apiece from both Emma Rodriguez and Alyssa Teske, while the team itself featured an impressive .419 attack efficiency in contributing to the 25-17 final score.

The Saints finished with a resounding 53 kills on offense and 72 digs on defense.  Hungate collected a match-high 16 kills, while also posting a team-best .438 attack percentage.  Teske took on the setting duties, registering 24 to her season total, while Simon manned the USF backcourt with 28 total digs.
