WHITING, Ind. -- The University of St. Francis women's soccer team walked away with a 3-0 win over Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on Saturday morning. It marked the sixth Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season for the Fighting Saints and upped their overall record to 9-3-2 on the year. In league play, the team now owns a 6-2-1 mark.
First Half
The Saints' first goal of the match came in the 6th minute on an assisted scoring strike from senior
Kelly Flores to forward
Ariadne Gonzalez. Junior
Litzy Flores was able to provide the assist for USF's second goal, which was scored by midfielder
Citlali Perez in the 11th minute to put the Saints up 2-0. St. Francis dominated possession the entirety of the half and erupted for 10 shot attempts in the period, while allowing Calumet (1-9-2, 0-8-0) just one offensive chance.
Second Half
Play stayed in USF's possession the majority of the second half, but each team held the other scoreless for the first 22 minutes and 49 seconds. Perez finally broke the ice, netting her second goal of the game off an assist from
Charlene Mendoza to give the Saints a major advantage on the scoreboard at 3-0 at the 67:49 mark of the match. The lead would prove to be too much for the Crimson Wave to overcome and St. Francis would hold claim to the 3-0 victory.
In total, USF registered 23 shot attempts with 14 total on-target, while holding Calumet to six shots (three on-target) for the match.
Giselle Mata recorded her eighth win of the season in the net for the Saints after logging 90 minutes in the shutout.
