JOLIET, Ill. -- For the third straight year, the University of St. Francis men's and women's basketball programs and the Beautiful Lives Project teamed up for a Court of Dreams event at the Pat Sullivan Center on the campus of USF. There were over 100 children and adults in the gymnasium on Wednesday morning that trained with the college athletes and coaches. The participants were guided through drills and skills by members of both USF basketball teams, while having the opportunities to share their individual journeys.
The Beautiful Lives Project is an organization that gives children and adults with disabilities the opportunity to participate in sports. During infancy, Bryce Weiler, the co-founder and active advocacy officer of the organization, developed retinopathy, which resulted in life-long blindness. His passion for sports led him to the University of Evansville, where he procured a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management and Communication, while also being welcomed as a four-year member of the men's basketball bench. He built friendships with the other team members during that time and was motivated to be able to give others a similar opportunity.
The events organized through the Beautiful Lives Project aim to impart an avenue for community engagement, while providing an opportunity for all participants to focus on what they are able to achieve and capable of offering to others.
