Saints Pull Away In First Quarter For 89-65 Victory Over Viterbo

JOLIET, Ill. -- Tykara Harrison authored the 11th 20-plus point game of her career and three others reached double figures as the University of St. Francis women's basketball team rebounded from this past Wednesday's setback to Governors State University with a commanding 89-65 victory over Viterbo University (Wis.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints (12-3, 5-2 CCAC) used a 52.3 percent shooting mark from the field (34-of-65) with 11 total three-pointers en route to their twelfth win of the campaign.  Jumping out to an early lead and coasting the rest of the way, St. Francis built a 28-15 advantage after the first ten minutes before extending it to as high as 28 points in the second quarter.  A 16-1 burst over an eight-minute span in that quarter turned a 28-15 USF lead into a 44-16 advantage.  The first half was the most decisive with St. Francis putting up 48 points to the guests' 23.

The offensive switch continued to stay on for head coach John McGinty's club after the halftime break with the Saints going 15-for-28 from the floor (.536) in the closing 20 minutes.  Viterbo (10-6, 3-5) would never lower the deficit below 22 points the rest of the afternoon.

Harrison, who scored 12 of her game-high 26 points in the first quarter, also provided a total of six rebounds and six assists for the game.  Laurelei Thormeyer was another big offensive key for the Saints with 12 of her 18 points coming off a game-high four treys.  Coryn Fromm and Amou Ring rounded out the top scoring efforts with 13 and 11 points, respectively.  Symone Harrell distributed four assists, as well, for USF on the day.

Olivia Lambrigtsen led Viterbo with 13 points.
