CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. - The University of St. Francis women's tennis team took to the court over the weekend, competing in a fall tune up tournament hosted by Prairie State College. Anna Bintsarovskaya and Gabriella Noa headlined the Fighting Saints' performances at the event, finishing the day going up against each other in the singles championship match. Bintsarovskaya earned the crown by edging out her teammate, 6-4, 6-0.
Besides Bintsarovskaya, Noa, Heather Heintz, Leah Villagomez, Sophia Taylor and Emma Deitz all received first-round byes, Viyaleta Hordzich started the day for the Saints, defeating teammate Eva Kubilius in the first round 6-0, 6-3. Hordzich would advance to the quarterfinal round, where she would meet a tough match against Bintsarovskaya, falling behind 6-0, 1-0 before needing to retire.
Noa and Heintz would both register their first wins of the day in Round 2 against Antonella Martins Xavier (1-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-2) and Villagomez (6-0, 6-0), respectively. Deitz also registered a quarterfinal-round victory over Taylor (6-2, 6-0).
In semifinal action, Bintsarovskaya and Noa would each author victories with Bintsarovskaya winning her match over Heintz 6-2, 6-1 and Noa defeating Dietz 6-0, 6-0. The victories set the stage for the all-USF showdown with Bintsarovskaya claiming the championship.
