Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Saints Sail Over Crimson Wave With 3-0 Sweep

JOLIET, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's volleyball team made quick work of its fifth Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match of the season, needing just 65 minutes to register a 25-6, 25-11, 25-19 sweep over Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on Tuesday night at the Sullivan Center.

Freshman Montana Groskreutz took care of business at the net, registering eight kills and producing a .417 attack percentage.  Desiree Anderson chipped in with five kills and committed just one attacking error leading to an impressive .444 attack mark.

Sarah Schmidt and Cadence Wodrich led the charge defensively as they each authored one solo block and two block assists.  Maura Babuskow and Anderson topped the team in digs with 10 and eight, respectively.  Alyssa Teske accounted for 13 of the team's 28 assists.

St. Francis (12-9, 4-1 CCAC) jumped on top 9-0 in the first set en route to the easy 25-6 victory.

The second stanza stayed within two points at 8-6 until a four-point swing caused CCSJ to take its first timeout of the match.  The Crimson Wave (0-12, 0-3) were able to regroup, but a six-point run quickly thereafter put the set out of reach with the Saints capturing the 25-11 victory.

The final frame saw Calumet St. Joseph take its only lead of the match with the first point, but St. Francis answered with a five-point burst.  With the score tied at 7-7, USF took off on an 12-2 run to put the score at 19-9 before CCSJ began to find its footing.  The Crimson Wave would score 10 of the next 13 rallies, forcing St. Francis to call a timeout.  The breather would be all the Saints would need as they finished the set with three straight points to seal the 25-19 victory.
