ELGIN, Ill. ---
Kiersten Manning recorded a pair of wins in the circle courtesy of nine scoreless innings pitched and the University of St. Francis softball team rebounded quickly from a pair of setbacks Saturday with 3-0 and 22-5 victories over Judson University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Monday night.
Manning (12-4) allowed only two hits on the day, both of which came in the first game, where she authored her sixth shutout of the season thanks in part to four strikeouts. She tossed another two innings of no-hit ball in Game 2.
USF's 22 runs in the nightcap were a season high, which came on 19 hits and nine Judson errors.
Brittany Osborne had a big offensive day at the plate with five hits, five runs scored and two runs batted in. She had a double and home run among her three hits in the nightcap.
Kaylie Sippel and
Kylie Cook provided another four hits each over the two contests.
Game 1: USF 3, Judson 0
Manning retired the first ten batters and 17 of the first 18 that she faced in the game. Only one runner would get as far as second base and that came on a two-out double in the sixth inning. That was followed by a hit batsman before she got out of the jam with a flyout.
Every time that Osborne reached base, good things happened for the Saints. Sippel drove her in with a single for the first run of the contest after Osborne opened the game with a single.
The pair worked together on the second run, as well, with
Abby Sippel coaxing a leadoff walk. Osborne sent her to third with her second hit of the game before
Kaylie Sippel drove her younger sister in on a groundout.
Osborne then reached on an error to open the fifth inning before scoring on
Emily Boyle's sacrifice.
Game 2: USF 22, Judson 5
The Saints' season-high run count prior to Monday was 14 runs and they hit that total in the third inning alone when they batted around twice. Â Five of those batters would record a pair of hits in that inning alone in Osborne, Boyle,
Kaylie Sippel,
Jaelynn Taylor and Cook.
Osborne, Sippel, Taylor and Cook would all finish with three hits with Taylor leading the way with three runs batted in. Osborne, Sippel, Boyle and Cook were all credited with two runs batted in.
USF (18-10, 4-2 CCAC) opened the third inning with five straight hits and had another seven batters in a row reach via a hit or walk later in the frame.Â
St. Francis, which spotted Judson (4-20, 1-3) a 2-0 lead, also scored five runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth.
Manning faced the minimum six batters to gain the win in relief. Three of the outs came on strikeouts.
Notes: Besides USF's 22 runs, its 19 hits were also a season high … With her pair of multi-hit games, Osborne now has a team-high 16 in 28 games played … Sippel, meanwhile, added to her club-high multi-RBI games with two more on Monday to give her seven on the season … Osborne's fourth home run of the season in Game 2 matches her career high for a single campaign … Manning's four runs in Game 2 marked a team season high …
Isabella Landeros has reached base in nine consecutive games … The Saints continue their busy week on Wednesday when they host Trinity Christian College in a league doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm. Â
