CLEVELAND, Ga. ---
Drew Dant had a three-run home run and
Nate Maliska collected a pair of hits, but Truett McConnell University (Ga.) pulled away late from the University of St. Francis baseball team, scoring a 17-3 victory on Tuesday afternoon.
The Fighting Saints trailed 4-0 when Dant recorded his first home run of the season in the fourth inning to pull USF to within 4-3. Truett McConnell, however, opened the floodgates in the fifth inning when the Bears (9-11) had the first ten batters reach base leading to an eight-run frame.
Caleb Gentry led the 16-hit attack for the hosts, who would go on to score five more times in the sixth inning. He went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two runs batted in. Brodie Genter drove in five runs on three hits.
Max Montgomery was the only other Saint to register a hit besides Dant and Maliska.
Notes: Dant, whose RBI total was a season high, has hit safely in eight of his last nine games and reached base for the tenth straight contest … Maliska has hit safely in five of his last six affairs with multi-hit games in three of said games … The Saints wrap up their Georgia trip on Wednesday with a 2 pm matchup against NAIA No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett College.
