Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Top-Seeded Indiana South Bend Ends Saints' Season

SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- A career-high 17 points from Mia Kennelly and double-figure scoring from both Le'lani Harris and Tykara Harrison were not enough for the University of St. Francis women's basketball team to upset NAIA No. 17-ranked Indiana University South Bend in the opening round of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament as the regular-season champion Titans came away with a 77-60 decision on Tuesday night.

Harris led the trio of Fighting Saint players notching at least 15 points with her 18-point effort.  Harrison chipped in with the 15 points.  Besides Kennelly's point total, she also produced a game-high eight caroms to give USF a 30-22 rebounding edge as well as a 15-4 scoring advantage on second-chance points.

St. Francis (11-18) started off the contest with the first seven points, but Indiana South Bend (28-1) scored 15 of the next 17 points and 28 of the next 35 and never looked back.  With the exception of just over a minute in the second quarter, the Titans led by 10-or-more points over the final three quarters.

USF would pull to within 12 points twice in the third quarter and the last time with 6:56 remaining in the game, but would get no closer as the Titans shot 63.2 percent (24-for-38) over the final three quarters.  For the game, IUSB hit on 58 percent of its shots from the field (29-of-50), including 10-of-22 (45.5 pct.) from three-point range.  USF managed a 42.9 percent mark from the field (21-of-49).

Indiana South Bend's Maddie Gard and Tenleigh Phelps tied for game-high scoring honors, finishing with 25 points each.

Notes: Harrison closed out the season riding a 22-game streak of scoring in double figures to claim the team's scoring title at 15.2 points per game … Kennelly was the club's top rebounder with her 8.0 average, while also securing the most steals (46) … Laurelei Thormeyer brought home four team titles, leading the club in treys (56), assists (89), three-point field goal percentage (.352) and free-throw percentage (.815) … Keijah Gray led in overall field goal percentage (.532) … Jorja Bolton, the lone Saint to start each of the first 28 games of the season, missed the finale due to illness.
