JOLIET, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's basketball team turned in its third-best shooting day of the season, but Roosevelt University shot an identical 62.5 percent over its final three quarters to turn an early double-digit deficit into an 88-63 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory on Saturday afternoon at the Pat Sullivan Center.
The Fighting Saints (8-16, 4-12 CCAC) were the 62 percent shooters (8-of-13) early on, gaining a 21-13 lead at the first stop. They then extended the advantage to 26-13 on a three-pointer from
Laurelei Thormeyer and a layup by
Talia Pellegrini to begin the second quarter.
Roosevelt (14-10, 12-4) responded with 19 of the next 21 points, hitting seven of its ten shots from the field over that six-minute stretch to take a 32-28 lead with 3:36 remaining in the quarter. The guests would eventually extend the advantage to ten points late in the period and held a double-figure lead for the closing 18:21 of the game.
Tykara Harrison continued her 20-point streak by hitting that plateau for the fourth game in a row, finishing with 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field and being perfect at the foul line (7-for-7).Â
Mia Kennelly matched her ten points with ten rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
For Roosevelt, the Lakers produced five double-figure scorers highlighted by Kristen Keys' 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting.Â
After making six of its 15 shots from the field in the opening quarter (40 percent) and just one three-pointer in eight attempts over the initial ten-minute period, Roosevelt went an identical 10-for-16 from the field (62.5 pct.) in each of its final three quarters to finish at 57.1 percent overall (36-of-63) for the afternoon.
The Saints just missed shooting better than 50 percent for the third time this season, finishing at 49.1 percent (26-of-53). Inside the arc, USF was 23-of-34 (67.6 pct.), while outside, it was just 3-of-19 (15.8 pct.).
St. Francis was hurt by its 22 turnovers, which resulted in a 27-13 scoring advantage in points off turnovers for Roosevelt.
Notes: Kennelly's ten-rebound game was her sixth reaching double figures this season … Harrison, who scored in double figures for the 17th game in a row, tied the team high of seven free throws made on the season … Roosevelt's 57.1 percent shooting mark was the second-highest by a St. Francis opponent this year … The Saints are on the road Wednesday night (5 pm) to face Governors State University in another CCAC matchup.
