LIVONIA, Mich. – Led by
Tykara Harrison's 18 points, the University of St. Francis women's basketball team grabbed its eleventh victory of the season, beating Madonna University (Mich.) 88-47 on Monday afternoon. Following the win, the Fighting Saints advanced their overall record to 11-2 on the season, while Madonna dropped to 11-4.
Including Harrison, eleven Saints in total contributed to the scoring column with five of those reaching double figures. Harrison (7-of-13 shooting) highlighted the attack, while
Amou Ring tied a career high with 14 points (5-of-6 shooting), which included her first two career three-pointers.
Symone Harrell chipped in another 11 points and
Laurelei Thormeyer and
Le'lani Harris provided 10 points apiece.
Harrison and Harris led the Saints with seven rebounds each, while Thormeyer collected five boards. Harrison, Harrell and
Coryn Fromm each dished out four assists.
Keairra Jennings (14 points, eight rebounds) was the lone player to score in double figures for Madonna.
A 16-4 scoring surge at the start of the contest that carried to the middle of the first quarter put the game out of reach from the get-go as the Saints never fell below a double-digit lead the rest of the afternoon. St. Francis built a 44-26 advantage at the halftime break and extended its lead to 26 points at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, USF eclipsed the 40-point mark with a successful
Keijah Gray layup and extended the lead to as high as 43 points with 1:32 left on the clock. A Madonna layup at the end of the game accounted for the final two points in the 88-47 contest.
A season-high 14 steals led to a 17-point swing in points off turnovers for the Saints, who also held a sizable 47-35 advantage on the boards over the Crusaders. USF finished the day shooting at .478 overall (32-of-67) and converted 11-of-27 three-point attempts (40.7 percent), while going 13-of-16 on free throws (.813). Madonna finished the contest converting just over 26 percent of its shots (16-of-61, .262), while hitting at a 5.3 percent rate from three-point range (1-of-19) and going 14-for-25 at the free-throw line (.560).
