Saints Close Out Regular Season With 9-0 Shutout On Senior Day

JOLIET, Ill. -- The University of St. Francis women's soccer team made it a Senior Day to remember on Saturday afternoon after netting nine goals in a 9-0 shutout victory over the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of St. Joseph.  The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory extends the Fighting Saints' conference record to 6-2-3 on the year and 8-5-5 overall. That places the team third in conference standings and secures USF a home playoff match.

First Half
St. Francis dominated possession the entirety of the half and erupted for six goals, while not allowing Calumet (0-11, 0-11) any offensive chances.  Defender Anna Jakubiec got the scoring going early for USF after she missiled a ball past the CCSJ keeper from 40 yards out in the fifth minute of play.  The authoritative goal would set the tone for the match as the Saints kept the offensive pressure consistent throughout the remainder of the 45-minute session.  It only took St. Francis two more minutes to double its lead when Adamari Carrera connected for an unassisted scoring strike at the 7:16 mark.  In the 20th minute, the Crimson Wave defense was met with another USF offensive charge when Alexis Marroquin scored USF's third goal of the contest off an assist from teammate Ariadne Gonzalez.  Gonzalez would soon have her turn in the scoring parade, netting back-to-back goals in the 34th and 37th minutes to up USF's advantage to 5-0.  Before the half concluded, Emily Galvan capped St. Francis' first half scoring with her successful shot at the 42:23 mark, which was assisted by Nikki Guzman.  The Saints totaled a monstrous 48 shots in the period with 23 being on-goal.

Second Half
The second half showcased another strong performance from the St. Francis front line as the ball did not cross midfield once during the second half.  St. Francis kept the scoring going in the 58th minute when Maite Bernal sent a cross that found Andrea Aguirre, who connected it for the score to turn the lead to 7-0.  Sandy Garcia was able to return the favor to Bernal three minutes later when she delivered an assist on Bernal's strike to extend the USF lead further.  Cassandra Rosales would pay the assistance forward to Garcia in the 67th minute when her cross allowed Garcia to fire her first goal of the season past the CCSJ keeper to end things at 9-0.

In total, USF registered a program-record 66 shot attempts with 35 total on-target, while holding Calumet to zero shots for the match.  Kadixamayrin Mireles recorded her first win of the season in net for the Saints after logging 90 minutes in the shutout.

Up Next
The Saints will match up against Judson University in a battle of the No. 3 and 6 seeds in the CCAC Tournament on Wednesday Nov. 6.  As the higher seed, the Saints will host the Eagles at Joliet Memorial Stadium.  Kickoff is slated for 7 pm.
