Saints Fall In Semifinal Round of CCAC Tournament

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- Kadixamayrin Mireles authored a collegiate-high nine saves, but it was not enough as Olivet Nazarene University scored five times on a chilly night to claim a 5-1 victory over the University of St. Francis women's soccer team in the semifinal round of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday night.  The loss ends the Fighting Saints' 2024 campaign at 9-6-5.

First Half
The Saints came out on the offensive to start the opening half, registering two shots with one corner kick opportunity in the match's first three minutes of play.  The Tigers were the first to notch a tally on the scoreboard, however, when a USF foul resulted in a successful penalty kick opportunity in the 16th minute.  The Saints evened the score at 1-1 in the exact same manner just six minutes later when a penalty kick from Ariadne Gonzalez found the back of the ONU net at 22:32. Things stayed quiet for the next 10 minutes until an offensive outburst of back-to-back goals in the 32nd and 34th minutes widened the score to 3-1 in Olivet Nazarene's favor.  ONU kept on the attack the remainder of the half, but Mireles stayed strong in the net, recording three saves and stifling two corner kick threats to keep the score at 3-1 heading into the break.

Second Half
The Tigers added an insurance goal quickly in the second half when a secondary shot off a deflected Mireles save resulted in ONU's fourth goal of the game at 48:51. With its aggressive approach proving to be successful, ONU continued to hit the offensive gas and rattled off seven more unanswered shots before the Saints countered over the match's next 30 minutes.  Mia Ocana was able to break the streak with her shot in the 79th minute, but ONU keeper Tessa Kowalski spoiled the try with a diving save.  With the minutes winding down, Olivet Nazarene tacked on one more goal just one minute before the final buzzer sounded to solidify the 5-1 outcome.

ONU outshot the Saints 27-9, including 14-5 in attempts on goal.  Ocana provided three of USF's nine shots, two of which were on goal.  In her second start of the season, Mireles recorded seven saves in the first half alone, while tallying two more in the second half for the nine total denials.
