LA CROSSE, Wis. – The University of St. Francis men's soccer team suffered a discouraging setback on Saturday afternoon, losing 10-0 to Viterbo University (Wis.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action. The loss drops the Fighting Saints to 4-8-2 overall and 0-7-2 in league play.
First Half
After heavy possession by Viterbo to start the half, the V-Hawks were able to score on two of their first three shot attempts in the initial 15 minutes of play. St. Francis responded by getting four shots off between the 16th and 29th minutes, but could not push one past VU keeper Ernesto Ascenzo, keeping the score locked in at 2-0. Before the half concluded, Viterbo punched in its third and fourth goals in the 38th and 40th minutes to give the V-Hawks a comfortable 4-0 lead heading into the break.
Second Half
Viterbo outshot St. Francis 15-4 in the second half and connected for six goals. The first three were scored between the 49th and 51st minutes before an own goal against USF was scored in the 74th minute to up the Viterbo advantage to 8-0. The V-Hawks tacked on two more scores in the remaining 16 minutes to hand the Saints the 10-0 loss.
Seven St. Francis players authored a combined eight shots (six on target) over the two halves with
Tony Njia being the lone Saint able to attempt two shots. In the net,
Alex Duda made four stops and endured 15 shots in his direction, with Viterbo registered 26 total shots during the 90 minutes. Ascenzo notched the shutout by recording the six saves.

The Saints are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2 with a home matchup against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.). Senior Day festivities will occur before the 3:30 pm scheduled kickoff at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
