PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. ---
Jorja Bolton hit for 17 points for the second game in a row,
Tykara Harrison recorded her second double-double of the season and the University of St. Francis women's basketball allowed a season-low 43 points en route to recording a 57-43 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Trinity Christian College on Wednesday night.
Bolton tied her career high in scoring, while also pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out three assists. Harrison totaled 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with two assists and a pair of steals.
Also having a big night on the boards was
Keijah Gray, who finished with 10 caroms and seven points. That led the Saints to overpowering Trinity Christian (2-14, 2-8 CCAC) on the boards 48-30 and outscoring the Trolls 16-3 on second-chance points.
USF (8-11, 4-7) also held a 16-8 advantage in points off turnovers.Â
For Trinity Christian, its top two scorers were Kirsten Kamholz (12 points) and Hannah Schuringa (11).
Trailing 5-3 at the start, the Saints went on a 13-2 run to go up 16-7 on their way to a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Five different USF players contributed to the run topped by
Talia Pellegrini's five points.
Trinity Christian, however, would not go away, getting as close as two points in the second quarter and forcing a pair of ties in the third quarter. The latter time came with 3:49 remaining in the period before another 13-2 burst that extended into the fourth quarter gave the Saints their biggest lead up to that point, 44-33, with just under nine minutes to play.Â
A free throw by Harrison followed by back-to-back treys from her and
Laurelei Thormeyer sparked the rally, which kept the Saints lead at double figures for the majority of the remainder of the contest.
The win snapped a five-game skid for USF.
Notes: Bolton, who has reached double figures in scoring in seven of her last eight games, tied a team season high with her seven free throws. She was perfect on the night at the charity stripe … Led by her 7-for-7 effort, the Saints had one of their best shooting nights of the year at the line, going 16-for-18 (.889) … After not scoring ten-or-more points in her first seven games at St. Francis, Harrison has now done so in 12 straight affairs … USF is on the road again Saturday when it heads to Gary, Ind. to face Indiana University Northwest in a 1 pm league contest.   Â
