Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Davis, Jones Lead Saints To Second Straight Win

JOLIET, Ill. --- Rahmel Davis scored a career-high 27 points and Te Jones added another 18 markers as the University of St. Francis men's basketball team made it two wins in a row with its 73-69 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Governors State University on Wednesday night at the Sullivan Center.

Both players also provided season-high efforts on the boards with seven and six rebounds, respectively, enabling the Saints to win that battle, too, 45-34.  All nine St. Francis players that saw action secured at least two rebounds with USF gaining a 17-9 advantage on second-chance points courtesy of its 15 offensive boards.

Davis' 27 points and ten field goals marked the highest output by a Saint in those two categories this season.  He finished the game converting on half of his 20 shot attempts and 7-of-8 free throws, while also dishing out three assists.  Nadav Gerner led the way in the latter department, tying his career high with his six assists.

Jones, meanwhile, accounted for all four of the Saints' three-pointers in just five attempts.  He went 6-for-11 from the field to hit the 18-plus point mark for the fourth time this winter.

Ben Kreitz was also a big key to the rebounding numbers with his career-high six boards to go along with a season-high seven points.

Kendall Brasfield was one of four Governors State starters to score in double figures.  He totaled 18 points.

The game was tight throughout with seven lead changes and another seven ties.  Neither team led by more than five points in the opening half with Governors State (5-10, 3-4 CCAC) holding the majority of the advantage in the opening 20 minutes.

The Jaguars held a 29-24 lead with 4:05 to play before the break when the Saints went on an 11-4 run to close out the half with a 35-33 edge.  Davis provided six of the 11 points during that stretch, including the go-ahead jumper with seven seconds remaining.

The second half was a different story with the Saints (4-8, 3-4) holding the lead for all but 1:41 as they made their way to a 53-46 lead with 11:33 left in the game before stretching it to as high as ten points (63-53) at the 4:13 mark.

Notes: Both teams shot an identical 27-of-64 from the field (42.2 pct.), but the Saints hit on 55.2 percent of their attempts (16-of-29) after the break … USF also had one of its better shooting nights at the foul line, converting at a 78.9 percent rate (15-of-19) to Governors State's 8-of-15 effort (53.3 percent) … Davis eclipsed his season-high scoring mark by ten points on Wednesday … The Saints head to Chicago on Saturday to take on the league's only unbeaten team in Roosevelt University.  Tipoff is 3 pm.
