Saints Break Out With Five Goals In Win Over Indiana South Bend

JOLIET, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's soccer team scored a season-high five goals, including two by Isabel Diez for the second game in a row, and Kadixamayrin Mireles recorded her first collegiate shutout as the Fighting Saints rolled to a  5-0 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Indiana University South Bend on Wednesday night at Joliet Memorial Stadium.

Diez provided the first two USF goals for the second consecutive game, doing so in the contest's first 18 minutes.  Andrea Aguirre and Alexis Marroquin delivered the assists on the two tallies.

Six minutes after Marroquin collected her first assist of the season, she authored her first goal of the 2023 campaign.  Diez returned the earlier favor from Marroquin by contributing the assist.

St. Francis' other two scores came in the second half with both Abbey Janeczek (49:26) and Kelly Flores (62:25) registering their first goals of the season.  Flores also assisted on Janeczek's goal with Hailey Bartlaga doing the honor on the final goal of the night.

Making her first collegiate start in goal, Mireles made the most of it with her initial shutout.  She stopped her only shot on goal in the second half.

USF (1-5-4, 1-1-2 CCAC) outshot Indiana South Bend (3-6-1, 0-4-0) 34-5, including 15-1 on goal.

Notes: The win was the 100th of head coach Al Palar's career with 76 coming in five years at Moraine Valley Community College.  The other 24 have happened in three-plus seasons at St. Francis … The Saints have scored eight goals in the past two matches ... Diez, who has appeared in four games this season, has recorded all four of her goals and the one assist in the last two contests … Flores, who is next in line in total points with five, has provided her goal and three assists in the same last two contests … Bartlaga's assist was her second of the season, while Aguirre's was her first … In three collegiate appearances dating back to last season, Mireles has yet to be scored upon, having made four stops in 146 minutes … USF's 34 shots and 15 on goal were both season-high numbers, while IUSB's five total shots were a season-low mark by a St. Francis opponent this fall … The shutout was USF's second of the season … The Saints face NAIA No. 18-ranked Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais on Saturday at 5 pm.
