Game Recap: Softball |

Saints Move Into Sole Possession of First Place Riding Eight-Game Winning Streak

JOLIET, Ill. --- Behind two wins in the circle from Madisen Tucker and a 26-hit attack on the day, the University of St. Francis softball team moved into sole possession of first place in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with its 5-4 and 13-0 sweep of Judson University on Wednesday.

Tucker was part of the first-game comeback in relief before starting the Game 2 shutout.  She also delivered at the plate, where she was one of four Fighting Saints to collect at least four hits on the day.

Brittany Osborne led the charge offensively with five hits and three runs batted in, while Zoe Ditter and Danielle Callahan each produced four hits and two RBIs.  The latter completed the first-game rally with her game-winning hit in the eighth inning.

The sweep enabled St. Francis to keep its perfect record at home intact at 10-0.

Game 1: USF 5, Judson 4 --- 8 Innings
Judson (7-19, 4-10 CCAC) surprised the Saints early on with a three-run first inning home run to centerfield by Tatyana Chavez and had a 4-0 lead after four innings.

USF (25-7, 12-2) embarked on its rally starting in the fifth inning and scored in that frame and each of the next three innings with four of the tallies coming with two outs.  Osborne was a key contributor with hits in three of those innings, two RBIs in another and the first Saint run of the game.  She would finish the game going 4-for-5 with the two runs batted in and the one run scored at the top of the order.

Osborne singled in the fifth inning and came around to score on an error after Callahan had doubled to get the Saints on the board.  She then made it a 4-3 contest when she drove home Tucker (single) and Ditter (single) with a two-run single up the middle in the sixth inning.

USF again took advantage of Judson miscues to tie the contest in the seventh inning before Callahan won it one inning later with her single to right centerfield.  Ditter (single), Rose Mwaro (sacrifice) and Osborne (single) set up the game-winning run.

Callahan and Tucker both finished with three hits, while Ditter posted two hits and two runs scored.

Bridget McDermott and Tucker both shut the door on Judson's offense with two scoreless innings each.

Game 2: USF 13, Judson 0
USF broke Game 2 wide open in the fourth inning to invoke the eight-run rule by putting up a ten-spot on the scoreboard.  Kaylie Sippel and Ditter each drove home two runs in the big inning.

Eleven different Saints were part of the 12-hit attack with eight players also driving in runs.  Ditter was the only one to record two hits, matching her pair from the opener.

Tucker (7-1) added to her two scoreless innings in the opener with four more in the nightcap.  Jordan Closs worked the final inning to complete the team's 11th shutout of the season.

Notes: The Saints have tied their longest winning streak of the year at eight games, while also having won 16 of their last 18 contests.  The only blip in between the two streaks, a doubleheader setback against Roosevelt University on April 2 … With her six scoreless innings on Wednesday, Tucker has yielded just one run over her last 22 innings.  In her ten outings on the season, she has not permitted more than two earned runs in any one game leading to her team-best 1.51 earned run average … With her two doubles on Wednesday, Callahan has tied Osborne as the team leader in that category with ten each … Callahan also now boasts a season-high eight-game hitting streak … Osborne's four-hit first game was her second of the season … The Saints hit the road on Sunday when they play Calumet College in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
